Why Love Sojourner?

Sojourner Truth is a hero of mine. Her real name was Isabelle Baumfree and was born into slavery in the year 1797 in New York state. She was a woman of courage and determination at a time where both her skin color and gender were detriments. She took on the name Sojourner Truth when she felt impressed by the Holy Spirit to be an itinerant preacher. She was known for being a powerful preacher, and someone who supported the weak and dis-empowered.

So often today many carry their victimization as their identity, but Sojourner Truth learned forgiveness and love for all people despite the harsh and sometimes cruel attacks against her for being black and a woman. I like Sojourner Truth, felt that my life has been one who “the Holy Spirit was calling her to become a traveling preacher who would stay only temporarily in places – sojourning – in order to preach the truth.” But having had a profound experience of love with Jesus, I am now his love ambassador preaching the unified story of love written in the Bible.
